Understanding Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method that works by applying a tiny electric current to individual hair follicles, destroying their growth centers. It is effective on all hair colors and types, and can be used on almost any part of the body. Our experienced practitioners ensure safe and efficient treatment.

The Process of Electrolysis

At Waterloo Medical Cosmetics, we ensure that our electrolysis process is effective, safe and comfortable. Our experienced Medical Aestheticians guide you through each step:

  1. Initial Consultation: Discuss your goals and health history with one of our Medical Aestheticians.
  2. Personalized Treatment Plan: A tailored plan is created to target your specific needs.
  3. Treatment: A fine probe is gently inserted into each hair follicle, transmitting a small electric current that destroys the hair growth cells.
  4. Hair Removal: The treated hair is then carefully removed.
  5. Follow-up: We assess your progress and adjust treatments as needed, ensuring optimal results.

Post-Treatment Care for Electrolysis

After your electrolysis session at Waterloo Medical Cosmetics, it's essential to follow these post-treatment guidelines to ensure optimal results and a smooth recovery:

  • Avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect the treated area.
  • Do not exfoliate or use abrasive products on the skin for at least 48 hours.
  • Refrain from strenuous activities and excessive heat (like saunas or hot tubs) for 24 hours.
  • Resist the temptation to tweeze, wax, or thread any hair in the treated area.
  • Apply a soothing aloe vera gel or our recommended post-treatment cream to calm the skin.

We're dedicated to your well-being and will guide you every step of the way.

FAQs

Still Have Questions?

Contact Us
  • Is electrolysis painful?

Everyone's pain threshold is different, and some people might feel a slight stinging or tingling sensation during electrolysis.

However, at Waterloo Medical Cosmetics, we prioritize your comfort and do everything we can to minimize discomfort. We use a very fine probe to apply the treatment, which helps to reduce any potential discomfort.

Additionally, we offer a numbing cream that can be applied before treatment to further enhance comfort. It's our aim to make your experience as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

  • What is the difference between electrolysis and laser hair removal?

Electrolysis and laser hair removal are both effective methods of reducing unwanted hair, but they work in different ways and are suited to different needs.

Electrolysis involves inserting a very fine needle into individual hair follicles and using an electric current to destroy the hair root, making it a permanent hair reduction treatment. It's effective on all hair and skin types and can treat any area of the body.

On the other hand, laser hair removal uses laser energy to target and heat hair follicles, inhibiting future hair growth. While it can effectively reduce hair growth, it's not typically considered permanent and may require periodic maintenance treatments.

At Waterloo Medical Cosmetics, our experienced Medical Aestheticians can guide you in choosing the right treatment based on your unique needs, skin type, and hair characteristics.

  • How does electrolysis fit into the wider range of services offered at Waterloo Medical Cosmetics?

Electrolysis is an integral part of our comprehensive range of aesthetic services and cosmetic treatments at Waterloo Medical Cosmetics.

Our goal is to provide clients with a full suite of treatments to address a variety of skin and hair concerns. As a permanent hair removal solution, electrolysis complements our other offerings by providing a targeted approach for unwanted hair.

When combined with our other treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing, dermal fillers or facials, we can create a holistic plan to enhance your natural beauty.

Benefits of Electrolysis

Permanent Results

Unlike shaving or waxing, electrolysis offers a permanent solution for unwanted hair. Through targeted treatment, the hair follicles are completely destroyed, preventing future hair growth and ensuring smooth, hair-free skin.

Suitable for Everyone

Electrolysis is an inclusive treatment, suitable for all skin and hair types. Regardless of your skin color or hair texture, our skilled practitioners can deliver effective results, making it a versatile choice for hair removal.

No More Ingrown Hairs

As electrolysis removes each hair from the root, it eliminates the risk of ingrown hairs which are common with other hair removal techniques. This not only leaves your skin smoother but also reduces irritation and discomfort.
