Age Spots
Age spots, often referred to as liver spots or solar lentigines, are small, flat patches of pigmented skin. These spots, varying in shades of brown, gray, or black, typically emerge due to prolonged sun exposure and the natural aging process. Predominantly found in individuals over 50, age spots commonly appear on sun-exposed areas such as the face, hands, shoulders, and arms.
While these spots pose no health threats, they can impact self-esteem and overall physical appearance. They originate from an overproduction of melanin, the pigment determining skin, hair, and eye color. Over time, this excess melanin clusters, culminating in the development of age spots.
